Gluten Free Garbanzo Bean Burgers #garbanzobeans #burgers #veganrecipes #vegetarianrecipes #glutenfree

So I made these awesome garbanzo bean burgers last night for dinner as an alternative to regular burgers and they came out great. They are easy to make and a great protein substitute for anyone trying to keep their cholesterol in check. All you need is:

Ingredients:

1 can garbanzo beans (drained and rinsed)

1 egg

1/2 onion

1 lemon (squeezed)

1 peeled carrot

2 cloves garlic

2 tbsp parsley

1 cup oatmeal

1 tbsp red pepper flakes

Butter lettuce

Cooking spray or oil to coat the pan

Start by preheating the oven to 400 degrees. Once you’ve assembled all your ingredients you can throw the beans, garlic, carrots, parsley, onion, and red pepper flakes into a food processor and blend together. This takes only a minute. Once everything is chopped and blended together move to a bowl.

Now you can add the oatmeal to the food processor to make it into a bread crumb like consistency. Next, add the oatmeal crumbs and the egg to the bean mixture and knead ingredients together (like you do with meatloaf).

Now you’re ready to make patties! Start by coating the baking sheet with cooking spray. Then pack take a handfull of the mixture and roll into a ball to pack it together then gently flatten. You should get 5 patties if you make them each into 5oz patties.

Once you’ve made all your patties throw them in the oven to bake for 10 minutes. Then flip and bake for another 10 minutes. While they are baking take the time to prepare you desired toppings (we had a spicy cheese, tomato, ketchup, mustard, and relish) and lay the lettuce out on plates (the lettuce serves as a bun). Make sure to double up on the bottom layer of lettuce to make it easier to pick up.

Once your patties are done baking (they should be a golden brown on both sides) place them on top of the lettuce and add your toppings.

Finally top with an additional leaf of lettuce and they’re ready to eat. Enjoy!!
